Why is Borusan Mannesmann accepting ideas and looking for potential partners to work on a focus area?
We always strive to find new and fresh solutions and ideas from universities, faculty members, researchers, start-up companies, private companies, entrepreneurs to catalyze innovation. We are looking for partners who can help us develop a solution on-hand and perhaps you are working on a startup that has similar technology that is being applied to a different product, or you are thinking about forming a startup but haven’t done so yet.
Is this a contest or competition where there will be a “winner” announced?
No, it is not a contest or competition — it’s an opportunity. We will not be selecting a “winner” from among the pool of applicants. Instead, we will be looking for qualified universities, faculty members, researchers, start-up companies, private companies, entrepreneurs that we might work with. We may work with one or more entity on the same focus area.
Who do I contact if I have a question about my application, or want to update information that I have already submitted?
You can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and ask your questions about your application. However, please do not use that email address to apply or share supporting materials. You must submit your application using the application form.
If I apply for a focus area topic will I get to meet with the Borusan Mannesmann team?
While we may follow-up with some applicants to request more information, or to schedule a follow-up call or meeting, we will not be able to meet with every applicant.
Do applicants need to be based in Istanbul Turkey, or travel to Istanbul for meetings?
No, CoIN platform is open to all qualified universities, faculty members, researchers, start-up companies, private companies, entrepreneurs around the world, and you are not required to travel for an in-person meeting or event in Istanbul Turkey.
Is there a deadline to apply for a focus area?
When a viable solution has already been applied, the focus area will be inactivated. However, from time to time, there will be a focus area that will be prioritized. When this happens, a pop-up will notify a deadline for that specific focus areas deadline.
How do you adapt a massive corporation so that an entrepreneur doesn’t get swallowed up?
We have a separate team to scale back the main Borusan Mannesmann designed to run big businesses—and create the appropriate environment for disruptive services and products and early stage ideas.
Will my product/innovation/solution be competing with existing Borusan Mannesmann space?
Not at all. Borusan Mannesmann Collaborative Innovation Network platform is focusing on Focus Areas where Borusan Mannesmann does not currently do business or is actively looking for a solution.
Does Borusan Mannesmann own the brands it creates?
This is a conversation that takes place with each partner. We hope to eventually fold all developed brands back into the existing Borusan Mannesmann business unit. We get to that point with unique agreements based on the specific circumstances around each partnership. Therefore, this needs to be discussed and analyzed mutually between the parties before a decision can be made.
If i simply want to sell you my business, is that an option?

Yes, if there is a path to a consumer product.
